In September 2004 we visited the coast of Ghana, Togo and Benin in West Africa. We had a wonderful and eye-opening time. In Benin we walked the route the slaves walked to the beach years ago, ate weird fried cheese on the beach, learnt about fetishism, visited a sacred forest and held a python. In Togo we were blessed by a Voodoo priest, ate porcupine and haggled in the markets. Ghana was more relaxed. We stayed on a paradise, palm-fringed deserted beach, we would watch the fishermen bring in their haul each day, visited historic fortresses, walked rope bridges in the stunning jungle and much much more.
